Collège Boréal, Cambrian College, Laurentian University and the City of Greater Sudbury are pleased to invite you to the Intercultural Learning Environments Conference taking place on Tuesday May 14, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Collège Boréal’s Sudbury Campus.

There is no cost to attend the conference! We are seeking 25 Support Staff and 25 Faculty Members from Cambrian College to attend this important regional event (please confirm your availability with your Dean or Manager).

In an age of increased globalization of work and study, an important post-secondary mandate has emerged: the need to support meaningful cultural interactions within classrooms. Some of the questions related to intercultural practice are:

  • How is your work informed by a global lens?
  • How does your own culture impact your interactions with students and peers?
  • What communication strategies do you use in an intercultural setting?
  • How can you best engage with all of your students?

The purpose of this one-day conference is to raise individual and collective awareness about issues and solutions for more inclusive intercultural practices in our post-secondary environments. Activities will include a student panel and discussion forum, workshops on intellectual property and plagiarism, an overview of the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) pilot project on building internationalization on campus, and more!

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Mamadou Ka, Adjunct Professor at the University of Saint-Boniface, Manitoba. Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Dr. Ka is a specialist in the fields of Leadership, Diversity Management, International Relations, and International Political Economy. In his keynote address, he will focus on the concepts of culture and cultural competency and their underlying impacts on our daily interactions – especially on those with our students.

Join us on May 14, 2019 at Collège Boréal’s Sudbury campus to network with Sudbury’s leaders in post-secondary education and learn about best practices in intercultural education.
